Founded in 2020 · Pan-African digital community

The Beginning

From African dreams to a continental platform.

Voice1Africa grew from the African Dream Project initiated through Nkosuo Initiative Foundation. That earlier project invited young Africans to describe the continent they wanted to help build through contributions such as “My African Dream” and “The Africa We Want.”

Those voices revealed a wider need: a platform through which young Africans could speak across national borders, examine shared challenges, exchange knowledge and develop ideas together.

Voice1Africa emerged in 2020 as that wider platform. It developed the African Dream concept into a Pan-African community for dialogue, leadership development, advocacy, entrepreneurship, wellbeing and creative expression.

Joe’s Contribution

Convening people, ideas and possibilities.

Joe Quarcoo serves as Chair of Voice1Africa and helped develop the platform from its roots in the African Dream Project.

His contribution has included shaping its strategic direction, convening discussions, developing programmes, producing media, building partnerships and creating opportunities for young Africans to contribute their knowledge and lived experience.

Voice1Africa has never been the work of one individual. Its activities have depended on programme leaders, volunteers, panellists, creatives, institutional collaborators and community members working across different countries.

The Purpose

A platform for voices that should shape Africa’s future.

Voice1Africa creates spaces in which young Africans can move from observation to participation—from discussing public challenges to developing knowledge, enterprises, campaigns, creative work and practical responses.

Its approach brings together civic learning, critical dialogue, personal development and community action. The platform is nonpartisan and Pan-African, recognising that meaningful change requires people to think beyond borders while remaining attentive to local realities.

Africa’s future should not merely be discussed around young people. Young Africans must help imagine, debate and build it.

Continuing the Work

A platform still evolving.

Voice1Africa continues to develop programmes connecting education, civic leadership, entrepreneurship, creativity and personal development. Its current work includes international-study support, public discussions, collaborative campaigns and resources for young Africans seeking to build purposeful lives and stronger communities.

Documenting the Movement

Conversations, programmes and creative action.

Voice1Africa’s public archive brings together discussions, campaigns, performances, learning programmes and contributions from people across the continent. The collection shows how the platform has connected personal experience with wider questions of leadership, enterprise, wellbeing, justice and Africa’s future.

African Dreams

A continent imagined in many voices.

The African Dreams archive invited contributors from different countries and backgrounds to describe the Africa they hoped to experience and help build. Rather than presenting one institutional answer, the collection preserves a plurality of aspirations, concerns and responsibilities expressed in African voices.

The original African Dream Project began through Nkosuo Initiative Foundation. Voice1Africa expanded that foundation into a much wider Pan-African archive, public platform and community of contributors.

Issues That Cross Borders

Creating room for difficult conversations.

Voice1Africa has convened conversations on corruption, governance, mental health, relationships, menstrual dignity, gender-based violence, enterprise, sustainability and African integration. These subjects are connected by a common concern: enabling young Africans to examine the systems shaping their lives and participate meaningfully in changing them.

Dialogue is not presented as the end of the work, but as a starting point for learning, collaboration and action.

Ethical Leadership

Examining corruption beyond national borders.

The Anti-Corruption Syndicate brought young Africans and invited contributors together to examine corruption, institutional accountability and ethical leadership across different national contexts.

The conversations explored how corruption affects public trust, opportunity and everyday life, while encouraging participants to think about informed, citizen-led responses.

Where individuals associated with the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee or the Institute for Global Studies at the University of Manitoba appear in the public archive, they are acknowledged as contributors or collaborators, not as sponsors or formal partners unless explicitly confirmed by Voice1Africa.

Why Are Africans Dissatisfied with Democracy? Think Corruption!

From Ideas to Enterprise

Learning, pitching and practical support.

Delivered in collaboration with Sound Mind BuildUp, the Entrepreneurship Development Programme combines business education, mentorship, pitching and practical enterprise development. The public archive documents training sessions, participant presentations, pitching competitions and award recipients.

More than 4,000 participants have received entrepreneurship and business-development training through the programme.
